A MUM who allowed cannabis to be 'dried out' at her house has been spared jail.

A MUM who allowed cannabis to be 'dried out' at her house has been spared jail.

Kate Thornton was arrested after police executed a search warrant and found a cannabis tent in a bedroom. More cannabis was found in a locked outbuilding.

In total, police recovered 1.27 kilograms of skunk cannabis with a maximum street value of £7,350.

The 48-year-old, of Walton Grove, Talke, pleaded guilty to permitting premises to be used for producing cannabis on September 9.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard Thornton benefited from her criminality by £1,000.

Stuart Muldoon, mitigating, said Thornton acted out of naivety and some pressure was put on her.

Mr Muldoon added: "She turned a blind eye to what was going on."

Judge Paul Glenn sentenced Thornton to three months in prison, suspended for 12 months, with supervision and a requirement to complete up to 60 days of the structured intervention workbook.

Judge Glenn said: "It is plain your involvement was financially motivated. You were frank enough to admit this was not the first time your house had been used to provide a safe haven for drugs to be dried. The amount of drugs found here indicates the cannabis was going to be supplied onwards."

The judge ruled Thornton benefited by £1,000 and ordered her to repay that amount
