A MAJOR cannabis cultivation containing more than 120 plants has been uncovered in Pembrey.

Officers from Burry Port police station came across the large-scale drugs find while conducting routine Farm Watch initiative enquiries, it has been reported.

Around 122 plants in various stages of growth were discovered during the checks, according to Burry Port police officers.

PCSO Philip Davies who has been part of the Farm Watch initiative, said: "Burry Port neighbourhood policing team along with response officers are committed to tackling drug crime in the Burry Port section.

"The team is keen to hear from members of the public if they have any information with regards to any suspicious activity or drug use in their local areas."

Subsequently one person was arrested and then bailed, pending further police enquiries into the discovery.

Neighbours throughout the area expressed shock at the alleged finds.

Burrows Terrace resident, Patricia Downes said: "I thought it was quiet here.

"I thought this issue had gone away but obviously it's still about."

And Mansel Street resident Pat Evans said: "It's something that is a problem.

"I worry about the kids and if it will affect them."

The find follows another discovery of numerous cannabis plants in the Pontyates area during the same period.

Neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs seized around 30 cannabis plants in various stages of growth.

They also seized hydroponic equipment potentially used for encouraging growth of the illegal substance.

A man in his forties from Pontyates was cautioned for production of cannabis at his home address, according to PC Vanessa Vaughan.

She said: "The male involved complied fully with police and all plants and equipment were seized and retained by authorities.

"Officers remain vigilant in respect of such activity and individuals ought to be aware of such commitment from their local community officers."
