Possession of the drug carries a maximum punishment of a five-year prison sentence and/or an unlimited fine. Cannabis contains more than 400 chemicals, with the main psychoactive ingredient being tetrahydrocannabinol, otherwise known as THC.

Use of the drug can produce a range of responses, from states of relaxation and light-headedness to feelings of anxiety, depression and paranoia.
