POLICE in Luton have arrested a man and released him on bail after officers found a cannabis factory, weapons, and cocaine in Connaught Road.

Members of Bedfordshire Police's Special Constabulary executed a search warrant yesterday evening (February 19) and found cannabis together with a hydroponics lighting system which had been fitted in the property.

During the subsequent search of the house a bag containing what is thought to be cocaine and various weapons were also seized.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and possession of a class A drug (cocaine).

He has since been released on police bail pending further investigations.

Police Sergeant Pauline Leng said: "This was an excellent result which illustrates the dedication of the Special Constabulary officers who give their own time to protect and keep the public safe."

She added: "Clues a property may be used for the cultivation of cannabis include permanently drawn curtains or blinds, strong smells and different people visiting.

"We would never encourage anyone to try to gain access to these places as they can be dangerous.

"If anyone has any suspicions about a property in their area I would recommend they contact the police immediately.

"All information we receive is used in complete confidence and will help us in the fight against criminals."
