CURIOUS to see if he had green fingers, a Yeovil man attracted the attention of some passers-by who noticed his unusual pot plants in the window.
They called the police who attended Jared Alexander Wilson's address and noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from the kitchen.
They discovered four seedling plants which had grown to around 11 inches in height along with a bottle of Miracle-Gro and the defendant was arrested.
Wilson, 34, of Wyndham View, pleaded guilty to producing four cannabis plants (class B) at Yeovil on June 10 when he was brought before Somerset Magistrates in custody.
Emma Chetland, prosecuting, said that the police received a call from a member of the public saying that they had walked past an address in Wyndham View and saw what they believed to be cannabis plants growing in the window.
"Officers attended and there was a strong smell of cannabis coming from the kitchen area and they found four plants which they identified as cannabis," she said.
"When Wilson was arrested he was interviewed and admitted growing them himself."
Defending solicitor Ryan Seneviratne said that it had been a rather crude and unsophisticated production of four cannabis seedlings.
"Individual seeds that the defendant had were placed between two sheets of tissue paper with soil from his garden along with a bottle of Miracle-Gro," he said.
"It was far from the set-up that is often seen in court with lighting, heating, ventilation and UV lamps and he only did it because he was curious when he had the seeds to see if he could grow them."
He added that the plants were a long way from maturity and there would have been no guarantee that they would have produced a yield of the drug.
Wilson was fined £110 and also ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge. The magistrates also made an order for the cannabis plants to be destroyed.
