North Wales Police were called to Premier Inn after another guest reported an 'unusual smell' coming from a room

A man was caught smoking cannabis at a town centre hotel last night after another guest noticed an “unusual smell” coming from his room.

North Wales Police were called to the Premier Inn in Jacques Way in Wrexham at about 11pm. Officers discovered a 21-year-old man in possession of the drug, before issuing him with a “cannabis warning”.

Wrexham Town Inspector Paul Wycherley said: “A guest could smell an unusual smell from one of the hotel rooms.

“As a result, we entered and found a person in possession of cannabis and issued him with a cannabis warning.”

A cannabis warning is a spoken warning given by a police officer, either on the street or at the station.

The police have the option of using a cannabis warning when someone is caught with a small amount of cannabis for personal use.

Incidents where a cannabis warning are issued are formally recorded by police.
