A MAN from Weymouth was handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence and 200 hours of unpaid community work after being caught with £370 worth of cannabis.
Jack Roads, 19, of Chickerell Road, Weymouth, was handed the sentence at Dorchester Crown Court after pleading guilty to the charges of possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply, and driving while unfit through drugs.
He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months, and handed a £250 fine.
Prosecuting, Miss Sadie Rizzo told the court Roads was pulled over by police officers in Weymouth at 1.30am on Sunday, April 13 and admitted to smoking the drug. When he was searched, police officers found 15 wraps of cannabis which, in total, weighed 13 grams with a street value of £150 and his phone and cash were also seized, Miss Rizzo said.
He was then searched at the police station and was found to have another bag of herbal cannabis, weighing 18 grams with a street value of between £210 and £220, Miss Rizzo added.
Miss Rizzo said that after a test at the police station, he was deemed unfit for driving by a doctor, due to drugs, and a blood test confirmed he had taken the drug. In sentencing, Judge Field said: "You have had a cannabis problem in recent times and you have fallen into bad company.
"This arrest and prosecution has you up short and I am satisfied you now want to mend your ways."
