Ardian Daci, of Oxford Drive, Hadleigh, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the production of cannabis when he appeared at his first hearing before Ipswich magistrates yesterday.
The 24-year-old Albanian had admitted looking after the harvest at a terraced property in Oxford Road, Ipswich, where around 60 plants were discovered early on Monday morning.
No interpreter was available to help Daci understand the court proceedings. However, the court heard that Daci had admitted the offence when he was questioned with his solicitor present by police through an interpreter.
After a short conversation about whether a guilty plea should be entered on his behalf or whether the matter should be adjourned until another date, it was decided the hearing should go ahead.
Dacie's solicitor Shelley Drew said she was sure Daci wanted to admit the charge as he had made full admissions to police.
Mrs Drew added: "It is a far from ideal situation but I am not sure that putting matters off for a day or two in the hope of an interpreter is going to assist him."
Prosecutor Colette Harper said police were called to a report of three males smashing their way into a property at 4.26am on Monday. When officers arrived the discovered every room in the house was filled with cannabis growing.
Mrs Harper said it was a large-scale operation. A majority of the plants had been harvested.
The court heard Daci was an Albanian who had been in the UK for two-and-a-half years. He had come into the country in a refrigerated lorry after paying to get in and was an ‘overstayer'.
Daci's case was committed for sentence to Ipswich Crown Court on a date to be fixed. He was remanded in custody.
