An Introduction to Cannabis extraction
Cannabis is usually smoked. It is the easiest way to consume it but there are other ways to ingest its active ingredients, via many of today's extraction techniques.
Cannabis extraction: techniques
There are several cannabis extraction techniques. The oldest is hand hashish or kief as it has been known since time immemorial, for example in Morocco. You simply have to rub and rub the flower until its resin is released, which can be smoked, vaporized or also incorporated into cooking. But from that primitive extraction technique these days, a lot of THC has flown under the bridge.
Cannabis tincture is an excellent method to preserve the active ingredients of marijuana for a long time and is made by distilling the buds in alcohol.
In the last 50 years, cannabis extractions with and without solvents have been the most used techniques for recreational or adult use.
Cannabis extraction with solvents
Within cannabis extraction with solvents, BHO, made with butane, is one of the most popular techniques.
Solventless marijuana extractions
In cannabis extractions without solvents, the Rosin technique has gained a lot of status due to its ease and economy in the last 15 years.
But the original technique is dry Hash, known as Ice Water Hash, where cold water and ice separate the glandular trichomes from the flower by friction with meshes of various microns until obtaining a very rich hash.
Extraction with fats is another of the widely used techniques, especially in cooking. Extraction with butter, oil and other fatty substances such as milk allows, if the temperature is correct, to transfer the active cannabis ingredients to the oil and use them in cooking or therapeutics.
