DRUGS worth up to HALF A MILLION pounds have been seized from Clarendon Place over the last two days.

Between 300 and 500 cannabis plants were seized from Clarendon Place following the basement flat fire on Tuesday.

Some estimate that each plant, once fully grown, can yield drugs with a street value of around £1,000.

Kent Police was called to Clarendon Place, Dover, just after 3.20pm on 25 March to reports of a fire.

Kent Fire and Rescue said the cause of the blaze was a surge in the electricity supply which caused the main fuse in the property to catch fire.

A police spokesman added: "No injuries were reported. Officers attended and have seized equipment believed to be used for the cultivation of cannabis.

"Between 300 and 500 plants have also been seized. Investigations are on-going."
