Bhang is made from the flowers and leaves of the female cannabis plant. It is made by soaking and grinding up plant material. the resulting paste is then rolled into smooth, green or brown shiny balls known as "Bhang Goli."  Bhang is often made into a drink called 'bhang thandai.' This contains milk, groundnuts, and a mixture of spices. This beverage is typically drank during religious festivals such as Holi.

Cannabis is one of five sacred plants mentioned in the Atharva Veda, an ancient Hindu text originating from 2000–1400BC. Bhang has also been a feature of Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. The Hindu faithful believe that bhang can bring comfort from many health issues, including digestive problems, pain and anxiety. Hindu holy men also use bhang to assist them in meditation and yogic practice.

Bhang is known for its psychoactive effects and is sometimes used to treat several physical and mental health states, including anxiety, depression, nausea, pain and muscle spasms. Consuming bhang as an edible slows down its absorption into the body. This makes it hard to judge and adjust your intake. Increasing the risk of overdosing and having a lousy time

Recipe Bhang Thandai (serves 2)

½ – 1 ounce, fresh cannabis flowers and leaves

500ml, water

500ml, whole fat milk

250ml, honey

2tbsp, ground almonds

¼tsp, ground ginger

¼tsp, ground fennel seeds

¼tsp, garam masala

¼tsp, ground black pepper

½tsp, cardamom

½ – 1tsp rosewater

 chopped pistachios -optional

Method

 Boil water on your stovetop.

Finely chop plant material, add it to boiling water and remove from heat.

Cover the pan. Leave to soak for 10 minutes.

Strain the mixture through some cheesecloth.

Warm milk on the stovetop.

Grind your cannabis in a mortar and pestle with several teaspoons of warm milk until it is a smooth paste.

Add more milk gradually until you have used roughly half the milk.

Strain plant material out of the milk and put the liquid aside.

Squeeze the plant material as you strain to get the most cannabinoids out of it and into your drink.

Mix the water and milk. Stir well.

Add the remaining milk and other ingredients stir well.

Chill for 30minsin the refrigerator. Stir well and garnish with chopped pistachios.

Bhang should be consumed fresh to get all its benefits. Bhang requires fresh cannabis leaves and flowers. It is ideal for using your unwanted fan leaves and trim.

Cannabinoids are fat-soluble. More THC and CBD will be absorbed if you use a liquid with high-fat content. Use full-fat cows or goats milk. Add a spoon full of cream, butter, or yoghurt to the finished drink to increase the fat content. Vegans should use Coconut milk as this will give you the best results. Add coconut oil at the end to increase absorption potential.

Edibles have potent effects. Bhang can take up to two hours to impact, and the high is more intense and long-lasting than what you would experience by smoking, so take it easy.
