A THC detox clears any traces of cannabis from the body that accumulate with consistent use. By abstaining from cannabis, the body can flush all cannabinoids and terpenes from its system. THC metabolites can remain for up to 30 days after the last inhalation or ingestion. Don't expect to be able to eliminate it in just a few days.

The duration of each THC detox depends mainly on how heavy and consistent your cannabis consumption is. For very regular users and medical consumers, the detox process may produce unpleasant symptoms such as:

  • Irritability
  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Decreased appetite
  • Insomnia

Cannabis is not considered an addictive drug like other scheduled substances. Still, some people with heavy use can experience cannabis disorders. There is some discussion over whether these symptoms are classified as withdrawal symptoms.

There are many ways to detox, including wellness practices to help you detox and improve your overall health.

What's the Best Detox Method?

1-Abstain from THC

This is pretty obvious, but to detox from cannabis, you need to stop all consumption. Whether you go cold turkey or more slowly, the detoxification process cannot truly begin until you have removed cannabis from your life

2- Exercise

Bodies store THC in fat cells. Physical exercise will help burn fat and increase metabolism, speeding up the detox process.

Drink lots of water to assist with expelling toxins. A great from exercising is the increase in the production of anandamide, the natural "bliss" molecule. If you've ever encountered a "runner's high," you will recognise the euphoric sensation that anandamide provides.

3- Healthy Diet

Avoid foods high in fat, salt and sugar to help you detox from weed. Junk Food, red meat and other high-calorie meals will increase water retention and slow your metabolism, directly opposing the body's ability to eliminate those THC metabolites. Leafy greens, vegetables and fruit will increase metabolism because they contain essential vitamins and iron. Incorporate more of these into your diet to help flush out your system.

Healthy fibres like Beans, legumes, peanuts and wheat will also give an added boost. They will assist in stabilising your mood and sleep and help to ease any possible adverse effects.

4-Tea

Antioxidants or cleansing teas like dandelion or milk thistle are a simple, enjoyable way to help the body detox and increase your water intake.

5- Take care of your mental health.

A detox can worsen any negative feelings you may already be struggling with. For some, exercise, yoga, and meditation may help stabilise mood. For others, it may mean cutting back on how much you are doing so that you do not get too stressed. Whatever it looks like to you, self-care is paramount when going through a THC detox.

How long does a weed detox take?

How long weed stays in your system depends on many things:

  • How much THC do you consume
  • Your body fat
  • Your metabolism
  • Your diet and lifestyle

People who are lighter or less frequent users, who take more exercise, have a faster metabolism, and have lower body fat may be able to flush THC out of their systems quicker than the next person.

Increase how fast THC is detoxed from your body by exercising, eating healthy and drinking lots of water.
