A NEW trend for wearing clothes made from cannabis is set to sweep the nation in the New Year after pre-sales for hemp sunglasses went through the roof.
Glasgow Caledonian University graduates, Sam Whitten and Brad Smith, designed the innovative sunglasses earlier this year – with initial pre-sales 150% more than they anticipated.
As a result, the creative duo are hoping to branch out into designing 100% hemp clothing and furniture.
Sam, 23, said: “Over the past four months I have been talking with a manufacturer in England about up-scaling the production method in their factory, to go from making two pairs in two days to thousands every month.
“The long term goal for Hemp Eyewear is to develop the product line by creating more styles of sunglasses as well a 100% hemp clothing line.”
With its higher sustainability and eco-friendliness, hemp fabric lasts six times longer than cotton materials, in addition to having “improved breathing properties.”
