A dad-of-two caught with £5,000 of cannabis in a shed is behind bars today.

Paul Bond, of Marton Grove Road, in Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, was jailed for 12 months after he pleaded guilty to possession of Class B with intent to supply.

Teesside Crown Court heard how the 25-year-old bought a large amount of cannabis, planning to smoke a large amount himself before selling the rest.

Prosecutor Sue Jacobs said police executed a search warrant at a home in Middlesbrough on February 5 this year, and found a large amount of cannabis.

Ms Jacobs said: "During the search, Bond was seen running in the direction of a shed in the rear garden and he was detained by officers.

"Following a search of the shed, two black buckets containing numerous bags of cannabis were recovered, along with a set of scales and empty bags."

In total, police recovered more than 20 bags of cannabis with a potential street value of £5,430.

Gary Wood, mitigating said Bond was using a large amount of cannabis at the time of his arrest, and was intending to "rid himself of his addiction."

He said: "The defendant admits that he purchased the drugs with a plan to smoke a large quantity himself, before selling the rest to fund his habit."

Sentencing Bond to 12 months, Judge Howard Crowson said: "I believe you were just one step above a street dealer and in the end you admitted your wrong doing.

"I believe you will use your time in custody to benefit yourself, your children, and those who care most about you, however if you come before me again, your sentence will be much greater."
