Police raided a house in St Cuthbert Street, Wells, after British Gas tipped them off.
A gas fitter executed a warrant for unpaid bills at the flat with the intention of fitting a pay meter.
While there he discovered that one of the bedrooms had been fitted with a hydroponic
and ventilation system, equipment used for growing cannabis.
When the police searched the room they found six mature cannabis plants and a further two drying in a cupboard on the landing.
There was also a small amount of as yet unidentified white powder in the living room.
The house was empty but since then the police have contacted the person who lives there and will be questioning him later this week.
