Gas stations are a well-known stop-off for munchies, snacks, forgotten items such as milk or bread, and even alcohol (albeit usually way overpriced). But now, in a world-first one gas station chain is pushing the envelope further and will soon start selling cannabis.

Bloomberg has reported that convenience store super chain Circle K has teamed up with Green Thumb Industries Inc to sell weed at its gas stations since 2023.

Who is Green Thumb Indutries Inc?

Green Thumb Industries Inc. ("Green Thumb") are a national cannabis consumer retailer and packaged goods company in the USA. Green Thumb promote well-being through the power of cannabis whilst giving back to communities.

Green Thumb owns and runs the national retail cannabis chain RISE and has 17 manufacturing facilities, 77 retail locations and operations across 15 U.S. markets. Green Thumb manufactures and distributes branded cannabis products, including Good Green, Beboe, Doctor Solomon's, Dog Walkers, Incredibles and RYTHM. Founded in 2014, Green Thumb employs roughly 4,000 people and serves millions of medicinal patients and recreational customers annually.

Green Thumb will bring flowers (cannabis buds), pre-rolls, gummies, and vapes to 10 of Circle K's 600 locations across Florida. You'll be able to purchase the products at its RISE Express Dispensary, located inside the participating Circle K convenience stores. Recreational weed remains banned in Florida, so this scheme, for now, will only be available to licensed medical weed customers.

"The opening of RISE Express stores at Circle K locations is a game-changer. Convenience is a strong channel in retail, and people want more access to cannabis,"

"The new RISE Express model is a huge step forward in making it easier and more efficient for patients to purchase high-quality cannabis as part of their everyday routine when stopping by their local convenience store."  Green Thumb CEO Ben Kovler

This is not Circle K's first step into the cannabis market. In 2021, its parent company Couche-Tard in partnership with Canadian cannabis retailer "Fire & Flower", opened neighbouring dispensaries in Circle K locations across Canada.
