DODGY' electrics powering a cannabis farm at a home in Erdington caused a fire destroying its roof this week.
The incident occurred at Edgemond Avenue in Pype Hayes shortly before 3pm on Easter Sunday (April 20).
Police arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of producing a controlled drug and has since been bailed pending further enquiries. A quantity of cannabis was also seized.
Birmingham North Community Action and Priority police team attended the incident and said on Twitter: "Dodgy electrics destroyed house. Expensive loft conversion!"
West Midlands Fire Service responded to the emergency call with three fire crews and 15 firefighters from Erdington and Ward attending and said: "We got the call at 2.46pm on Easter Sunday and arrived to find a severe fire in the roof of a semi-detached property.
"Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, using two hose-reel jets and a covering jet put out the fire and a PPV (positive pressure ventilation) fan due to the excess smoke, once the fire was out. The electrics were then isolated by the electricity board."
