Falmouth man caught cannabis said it was his 'Christmas stash'

Police caught up with a man who had bought cannabis “for his Christmas stash” only 20 minutes earlier, District Judge Kevin Gray heard at Truro Magistrates’ Court.

Nathan Sparkes, aged 29, of Tresillian Road, Falmouth, pleaded guilty to possessing 46.54 grams of the drug, worth £462, in October, at Camborne.

Alison May, for the CPS, said police stopped him while he was driving a car, and smelt cannabis, then finding a quantity of it in the gearstick cover. A later search at his home produced more, and he told them it was all for his own personal use, “a Christmas stash”.

He had no previous convictions.

He told Judge Gray he took the drug to relieve stress.

He was fined £350 with £120 costs and surcharge.
