DOZENS of people made their views about cannabis known at a protest in a Basingstoke park yesterday.
Campaigners from across Hampshire gathered at Eastrop Park to publicise their belief that cannabis should be legalised.
Police maintained a presence at the event throughout the afternoon, but no arrests were made. Inspector Carl Holmes told The Gazette police were there to "facilitate a peaceful protest."
He added: "Arrest is the most serious, and hopefully the last option."
Emma Wilson, who organised the Hampshire Cannabis Community protest, said: "Whether or not people think we have the right to do this, we believe we have. We want to educate the public."
The 21-year-old from Petersfield added: "We don't see ourselves as criminals. We don't think we should have to feel like that."
