A dozy duo phoned an ambulance to take them to hospital after chemicals they were mixing to grow cannabis plants exploded in their faces.
The 19 and 21-year-old Dumfries men were later charged by police for alleged drug offences and had their equipment seized.
The pair of dopes made a call for help after the incident at an address in the Cresswell area of the town around 2.30pm on Thursday.
An ambulance was followed to the scene by the fire service, who had to make sure the house was safe before police entered the property.
The men were taken to Dumfries Infirmary for treatment for chemical burns to their hands and faces before being released later that day.
Police believe the pair had been mixing two chemicals for the soil for the nine cannabis plants recovered in the house when it blew up on them.
Detective Constable Scott Jardine, substance misuse co-ordinator for police said the incident “could have went horribly wrong and been a lot worse”.
He added: “We believe they were trying to keep the soil at a certain PH level when it blew up on them.
“People should be aware that if they are untrained in mixing chemicals, they don’t know what the reaction will be.
“There could have been a major fire in the house which would have impacted on neighbours or there could have been children in the house.
“Doing something like this poses a real danger not only to yourself, but innocent people around you.
“The two men phoned for an ambulance themselves and before police could enter the house, the fire service had to make sure it was safe to do so.
“A cannabis cultivation was found and the two men have been reported to the fiscal.”
