COMMUNITY intelligence played a major part in police officers uncovering a haul of drugs in South Derbyshire.
Police chiefs revealed information from members of the public helped them uncover a cannabis growing operation at a property in Rosliston Road, Walton-on-Trent.
Now Derbyshire police are asking people to 'remain vigilant' to help the force in its battle to catch out drug dealers and people creating drugs.
Derby South section inspector Nigel Lidsey said: "We are very pleased to have been able to uncover this cannabis and ensure that it does not end up on the streets of South Derbyshire.
"We are also pleased that the information about the drugs came from sources within the community.
"This type of intelligence from members of the public is key for us to putting an end to crime and in catching criminals.
"The turnaround time on this operation – from receiving the information to the raid – was a matter of days, showing just how quickly we can react when we have the information.
"We are now asking the public to help again by getting in touch if they know of anyone who might have been involved with growing the drugs.
"We also want them to keep getting in touch about other crimes.
"This raid shows that drug growers can crop up anywhere.
"People need to look out for houses where lights are on at strange times and/or strange smells.
"We would like to thank everyone who helped us take these drugs from heading to the streets."
