A man who tried to escape drug squad officers by jumping from a first floor window broke his foot.
Officers attended an address on Eton Road, in Middlesbrough on Thursday, where around 300 cannabis plants were found, worth approximately £130,000.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said members of the Drugs Enforcement Team recovered a "large cannabis farm" contained in three rooms.
"A Vietnamese male jumped out of a first floor bedroom window on hearing police enter the house attempting to escape," she said. "However, he broke the heel to his left foot on landing and was detained.
"He has been arrested in connection with the production of a Class B drug.
Today, neighbours spoke of their shock, with many describing the street as "quiet and peaceful".
One man who didn't want to be named, but has lived at his address for more than 70 years said: "I can't believe what I am hearing. We have never had any problems here and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I was born in this house.
"The thing is, once you get people renting properties you start to see standards drop. It angers me to think people are giving this road a bad name."
A couple who had just returned from holiday said they hadn't heard anything about the incident but were "horrified" to hear a the drug squad had been to their street.
Another resident added: "I haven't seen any police activity round here, in fact. I can't remember the last time I seen a police car in this street.
"You hear of drugs being seized but I wouldn't have thought it would happen right under our noses. It's a shame."
Police said the man had been charged and remanded on bail.
