A DRUG importer has been sentenced to eight years behind bars for attempting to smuggle more than £100,000-worth of cannabis resin into the island.

Edward Rees, 57, from Cardiff, maintained his innocence at the sentencing hearing in the Royal Court, despite 24 bars of the Class B drug being found in the door panel of his car.
Judge Russell Finch said the court could offer Rees little mitigation on the sentence as he was still ‘peddling' a ‘nonsensical' story.
He added that Guernsey had no use for UK criminals, who were adding to the local drugs problem.
Just over six kilos of cannabis resin was discovered by Guernsey Border Agency officers in the door of Rees' Ford Mondeo when he arrived in Guernsey earlier this year on the Poole ferry.
A police officer in the UK had tipped off local officials about Rees after he was observed acting nervously. A drugs dog uncovered the bars behind the rear offside panel.
