AN unemployed Ilfracombe couple agreed to allow their spare room to be used to grow cannabis in the hope of being paid for their effort.
Robin and Samantha Sobey helped look after the plants and were caught with a crop of 16 with a potential yield worth £6,400 when police raided their rented home in Ilfracombe.
They were ordered to receive supervision after Exeter Crown Court was told they had received no financial benefit for the one crop which had already been grown and harvested.
They were arrested after police who called at their home on an unrelated inquiry smelled the strong aroma of the skunk plants.
