A DOUBLE drugs raid has led to two mini cannabis factories being discovered.
In the past 48 hours, members of Nuneaton and Bedworth's Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs) have carried out two stings - one in each town.
In the first, they executed a warrant at an address in Melrose Avenue in Bedworth.
Once inside they found a mini cannabis factory in production in the front bedroom.
Mature plants were seized, as was all of the growing paraphernalia.
Dangerously, the electricity supply had also been by-passed to the lights used to grow the plants, and experts had to be called out to make the property safe.
A man, who has not been identified, was arrested and was being questioned by officers yesterday afternoon.
Over in Nuneaton, at a property in Fox Avenue was raided yesterday afternoon.
At the time of going to press, it was understood that 14 plants were found.
But it is known that in both case, police were given 'community based' intelligence about the drug production.
In Melrose Avenue, PC Lee Marston and PC Roy Hampton had been made aware of a distinctive smell coming from the property.
They went to investigate and noticed the pungent smell was wafting from windows open at the back of the property.
The pair of community bobbies knocked the door but there was no answer. They went back to their sergeant, and secured a warrant from Magistrates to carry out the raid on Monday.
Officers in Nuneaton were given information about suspicions that the Class B drug was being grown at the home in Weddington.
They used this information to help build a case to secure a warrant to raid the home.
Officers from Nuneaton East SNT found the drugs growing in an upstairs bedroom.
The plants and growing kit was seized, and will be destroyed.
PC David Dyde and PC Esther Kinch, from the team, said: "This is another positive result following on from concerns raised by the local community, we will strive to act on all the local intelligence we receive to reassure the community and reduce the scourge of drug related crime."
The News understands that the borough's SNTs have carried out a series of raids over the past few months, and will continue to do so over the summer.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who suspects that drugs are being grown or sold in their neighbourhood.
