A CANNABIS crop was incinerated as a blaze tore through the roof-space of a property in Cliftonville last night.

Six engines from Margate and Ramsgate attended the fire at the three-storey building in Cornwall Gardens at 9.30pm.

Crews were prevented from getting to the fire in a second-floor attic conversion by two dogs and had to call in police to remove them.

Firemen used breathing equipment and hosereels during the incident.

A fire service spokesman said: "There was 75 per cent damage to the roof space and 20 per cent smoke-damage damage to the property.

"A thermal imaging camera was used to find hot-spots. There were no injuries reported.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical."

Fire crews left the scene at 3.30am.

A 44-year-old man arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis has been bailed until March 14 while police continue to investigate.
