Shane Cousins, 40, hoped to copy chemistry teacher Walter White in the American TV crime drama to pay off £50,000 debts.
So he began growing 23 pot plants in a bedroom of his home in Ystradgynlais, south Wales.
But the dad-of-three knew nothing about cannabis - and in the end a pal shopped him to police.
Cousins said: "I didn't even know what I was doing. I was just playing it by ear. I'd never do it again."
He pleaded guilty at Brecon magistrates last week and will be sentenced on October 10.
