A man stopped by police with six large bags of cannabis in his car boot has appeared in court.
Francis Kenny, 48, of Beaumont Park Road, Beaumont Park, was pulled over in Huddersfield by officers on February 2 for a routine check.
Police officers smelled the drug and when they searched his Ford Mondeo car they found drugs worth £1,465.
Kenny admitted the stash was his but said he needed the drug to tackle his anxiety and depression.
He said he had "bought in bulk" after winning £1,500 at the races and had paid £900 for six ounces of skunk marijuana, which he hoped would last him a year.
Police checked the story out and found it to be true and so he was not charged with conspiracy to supply.
Kenny, who was fined in 2010 for growing his own marijuana, said he was on a cocktail of medication but cannabis was the most effective at easing his symptoms.
The hearing at Kirklees Magistrates Court was adjourned until June 16 for a pre-sentence report.
