LOCKED UP: Cornelius Conn.

LOCKED UP: Cornelius Conn.

Cornelius Conn, 44, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for sentencing after previously admitting producing cannabis at an address on Logie Place, Aberdeen.

The offence took place between January 1, 2013 and January 17 this year.

The court previously heard that the 50 plants which were found in a cabinet in his home could have a value of between £12,500 and £45,000 if they reached full maturity.

However a police expert had said the value was more likely to be towards the lower end of the scale.

Defence agent Christopher Maitland said that Conn's cultivation had been "purely for personal use" and that he took cannabis for medicinal purposes because of broken bones in his back.

He also added that Conn, whose address was given in court as 2C Logie Place, Aberdeen, was the main carer for his young child.

However, Sheriff William Summers told Conn, who has a previous conviction for the same offence, that as long as cannabis is illegal it "matters not a jot" if he was using it for medicinal purposes
