POLICE stopped a car in Plymouth and found it was packed with 200 nine-ounce bars of suspected cannabis resin - with an estimated street value of £125,000.

Officers pulled over the silver Mercedes, which had two people inside, on Prince Maurice Road in Lipson at around 1.30pm yesterday.

The car had two large boxes inside containing the suspected drugs, which weighed around 50 kilos in total, officers said.

Three people were later arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and taken to Crownhill police station for questioning.

They were a woman from the Kent area, aged 38, and two men, one from Kent and one from Plymouth, aged 38 and 53.

Investigators have revealed they have since searched a property in Kent and a property in Plymouth as a result of the arrests.

Detective Inspector Nick West, from Crownhill police station, said: "This is a very successful seizure in our continued effort to fight the transportation of controlled drugs into Plymouth."

The three suspects were still in police custody at the time of The Herald going to press.
