Snoop Dogg Launches Death Row Cannabis
Snoop Dogg announced that Death Row Records, the celebrated West Coast hip-hop platform that has tailored names like Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur, The Dogg Pound, and others, is joining the cannabis scene with a brand new line of weed, Death Raw Cannabis. The new pot brand launches with OG strains developed by legendary cultivator AK.
Death Row Cannabis will start out with some yummy OG strains, such as Runtz, Strawberry Gary, and Tropicana Cookies. The first drop will be a limited edition commemorative metallic bags sporting a hooded prisoner figure seated in an electric chair on the front, his hands broken free and smoking a big fat blunt. The image is a nod to the iconic logo of Death Row Records.
Snoop Dog hired one of the top cultivators on the scene for the lucrative gig. The man of the hour is AK. His portfolio includes the IYKYK brand SMKRS. He is also the Vice President of Cultivation for TRP LLC. And perhaps his most notable grow project is the one with Wizard Trees, where AK worked on cultivars such as Rainbow Sherbet #11, Studio 54, and Shirazi from breeder DEO Farms.
If SMKRS doesn't mean much to you, it's the operator that owns most of the Cookies stores in the U.S., including their Florida-based facilities. The Death Row Cannabis first limited edition is available at Cookies California stores throughout California as of Jan. 2, 2023. Locations include Brentwood, San Bernandino, and San Diego, with more to be announced soon. The brand will also expand to other states.
AK has a special knack for cultivating fire OG strains, so he is the perfect pick to kick off Death Row Cannabis. Snoop Dogg reportedly chose him personally for the task.
The legendary rapper acquired Death Row Records last year, in 2022. It's the label that released his debut album, Doggystyle, in 1993. "It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career," he said at the time.
Death Row Records has produced some of the most era-defining names of the rap scene. Hopes that the label's pivot into Cannabis comes with success under Snoop's leadership.
