Recreational and medical weed sales for August reach record highs

For the first time, monthly marijuana revenue in Colorado has topped $100 million, according to new figures recently released by the state's Department of Revenue.

Each month boasts sales higher revenues than the one prior, with August of 2015 setting a record. Recreational weed sales were reported at $59.2 million and medical marijuana sales were reported at $41.4 million.

Colorado was the first state to implement legal recreational Cannabis sales, with dispensation beginning on January 1, 2014. The first month of legal recreational marijuana sales contributed $14.7 million of the total $46.9 million in combined pot revenue for the state, and recreational weed sales did not surpass those of medical Cannabis in the state for the first time until August of last year.
