List of ingredients
- 5 hot dog buns
- 1/4 cup melted Simple Cannabutter
- 2 tablespoons dried ground oregano
- 5 chicken or turkey hot dogs
- 5 slices bacon
- 1/4 cup grated pepper jack cheese for stuffing (add extra for topping)
- 2 cups canola oil
- 1/2 cup relish
- mustard
- ketchup
If you prefer a veggie version of this appetizer, you can always go for soy-based veggie substitutes.
Step by step instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Cut the hot dog buns crossways into three parts and put the open buns on a baking sheet.
- Add melted cannabutter on the inside of the buns, sprinkle with oregano, and then toast the buns for 5-7 minutes until they turn golden brown.
- While you wait for the buns, cut the hot dogs the same as the buns. Then, cut each hot dog piece lengthwise about 3/4 of the way through. Also, cut each piece of bacon crosswise into thirds.
- When you are done with all the cutting, stuff some of the grated cheese inside each hot dog piece and use the bacon to wrap, then secure the ends with a toothpick.
- Pour the canola oil into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and heat over medium-high heat (oil should be at 350°F). Add the bacon-wrapped hot dog pieces when the oil is hot and fry until the bacon turns brown and crispy. When the hot dogs are done, remove them from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
- Final step. Take the toothpicks out and arrange the hot dog pieces on the toasted buns. Complete each bun with relish, more grated cheese, mustard and/or ketchup, all up to your preferences.
How to Prepare Cannabutter?
The key ingredient for the Snoop Hot Doggy Doggs is simple cannabutter. You can purchase cannabutter from your local cannabis shop or prepare it by yourself.
The things you need for cannabutter:
Smaller dose:
- 1 stick of salted butter
- 1/4 ounce cannabis buds (finely ground)
Bigger dose:
- 4 sticks of butter
- 1 ounce of cannabis
Steps to prepare cannabutter:
- Melt the butter in a saucepan on low heat.
- Decarboxylate. Add the ground buds of weed and simmer on low heat for 45 minutes if you are preparing a smaller dose and up to an hour if you are going for the more significant quantity. All the way, stir frequently.
- Strain the butter into a glass container. Squeeze out as much butter as possible by pushing the spoon against the plant material and smashing it against a strainer. Discard the plant material afterward.
So, preparing cannabutter is pretty simple, however, you should anticipate a pungent smell to be released from the saucepan. It might be a trouble if you live in a small studio apartment and if you have neighbors who may complain about the smell.
Nevertheless, once ready, you can use the cannabutter immediately or store it in the fridge until you decide to cook those crunchy hot dogs. Cannabutter is used as the basis for many other delectable edible treats, and if you master this one recipe, then you can learn how to prepare from beginning-to-end plenty of other stoner snacks.
