A July report into the death of Levy Thamba by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reiterates the position that edible Cannabis products should be clearly labeled and be limited in portion size according to dosage recommendations.

Levy Thamba, also known as Levi Thamba Pongi, was a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo who was studying to be an engineer at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. He and several friends drove to Denver, Colorado to celebrate spring break and someone purchased several Cannabis products from a legal pot shop for the group to enjoy. Thamba Pongi was said to have consumed six times the recommended dosage of edible pot in cookie form and began to act erratically and in a hostile manner.

Several hours after eating the pot cookie and despite attempts by his companions at calming him, then plunged four stories to his death after allegedly jumping over a balcony.

Marijuana intoxication was listed as a chief contributing factor to the student's death, and conversations regarding clear content and dosage labeling for edible weed products have increased as a result of the incident.
