UK tourists face possible arrest and deportation if found consuming cannabis in legal US states
Charlotte Slocombe who is an expert in American immigration at UK firm Fragomen has warned that tourists who visit the states to purchase and use legal cannabis still risk getting into trouble as the drug remains prohibited under US federal law.
She said:
"I know of a case where Americans citizens were found by police smoking cannabis at a private event in a legal state where they could not be arrested. Foreign tourists however at the same place where arrested, deported and barred from entering the USA ever again in the future".
