A STRONG sense of smell has helped police discover and track down a suspected cannabis farm in North Somerset.

A STRONG sense of smell has helped police discover and track down a suspected cannabis farm in North Somerset.

What started as a potential burglary investigation at the weekend, ended up with police officers finding cannabis plants being grown in a barn instead.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary officers were called to Churchill on March 8 by a member of the public concerned about a possible burglary taking place in the Church Lane area of the village.

However when police arrived on the scene, they found themselves having to deal with a completely different type of incident.

A spokesman for the force said: "The police were called to a possible burglary that was believed to be in progress, when officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from a nearby barn.

"A total of 15 cannabis plants were found inside it. Officers have now removed them. A police investigation is under way and ongoing."

Officers from the Nailsea beat team were involved in the removal of the cannabis plants from the barn after the police received a call from the public at about 8.20pm.

A police spokesman said no arrests have been made so far.
