A HAYLE teenager had been picked by an older man to sell drugs for him for a cut of the profits, a court heard.
At Truro Magistrates' Court, sitting as a youth court, Deborah Von Kohler, solicitor for the teenager said: "He was strolling along and somebody gave him the cannabis and he did not look further than that. It appears someone saw him, picked on him in the local area as someone useful to sell the drug."
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted two offences of possessing cannabis with intent to supply, worth £3,585 at street value.
Alison May, for the CPS, said police watched the teenager at a place near the park in Helston after receiving reports of possible drug dealing going on there. He was a front seat passenger in a car which smelt of the drug, and when the vehicle was searched 229.39 grams of herbal cannabis were seized.
He told officers: "I am in the s***. It is mine. I was just running it. I don't do that s***."
During a search of his home police found 137.49 grams of cannabis, scales and plastic bags in his bedroom.
When interviewed he said he had been selling large quantities of the drug for an older man who had lots of drugs but did not know how to sell them. He said he sold the drugs for him and got money back for doing so. He said if the latest transaction had gone through it would have made him £400 and been the fourth time he had done it.
He had a police reprimand in December last year for possession of cannabis.
Ms Von Kohler said the teenager had seen selling drugs as a way to make money, but told her he did not think about where the drugs were going or the possible consequences of what he was doing.
The teenager told magistrates he regretted what he had done. "It happened quite quick," he said. The magistrates made a six-month referral order, told him to pay £75 costs and surcharge and the drugs and equipment were ordered to be forfeited.
