A BONYMAEN man who said he uses cannabis to treat his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder has been given a suspended prison sentence.

A BONYMAEN man who said he uses cannabis to treat his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Swansea Magistrates Court heard that police found a dozen marijuana plants when they searched Dean Lee Green's house in Buckingham Road last month

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to producing the Class B drug when he appeared before justices.

Magistrates were told by the Probation Service that Green had been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as a child, and was self-medicating the condition with cannabis.

Phil Huxtable, in mitigation, said: "My client tells me he is not addicted to the drug, but has not found anything that alleviates his symptoms quite as well as cannabis does."

Green was given a 12 week prison sentence suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to pay £85 costs and £80 victim surcharge.

Magistrates also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the plants.
