How To Hide Cannabis In Your Garden
If you’ve been smoking cannabis for a while, you may have learned to sneak around a bit to do your business. Cannabis has been legal in Canada for almost a year and I’ve found that I still want to sneak around. After decades of prohibition, sneaking around just came as second nature. In Canada a citizen (in most provinces) is allowed four or more plants for their personal supply. In those countries that haven’t legalized marijuana yet, sneaking around is still being practiced. That said, let me introduce you to the fine art of sneaking in a few plants in your backyard garden.
First of all, weeds are your friend. They look exactly like a marijuana plant at a distance. High reaching thistles are especially good to have around the garden. Get in the habit of not weeding your garden much until you’ve harvested your cannabis.
You have to decide on what you’ll be planting and where you’ll be planting it. Marijuana can be mistaken at a distance as any squat, green colored leafy plant. Peas, green beans and vertically growing cucumbers are great to plant with cannabis.
Some might say growing your cannabis between rows of corn is the best way to go. I beg to differ. Corn is only green for a portion of a regular cannabis plant’s lifecycle. When the plant is mature and budding your corn will be a light brown or even yellow. This clashes with the always bright green foliage and will give you away most of the time if you plant between the rows. Rather, use the corn as a screen to hide a whole row of cannabis. Plant two or three rows of corn in a place that will block the cannabis from line of sight. Give your cannabis an area of about half a square meter per plant. It might be a good idea to transplant some thistles amongst your cannabis as well.
I’ve found that pruning your plants so they’re the same height as say the plant that bears peas. Topping your plants so they don’t outgrow any of your vegetables is a must. This can actually be a good thing. Cannabis that has been stopped from growing in height will expend all of its energy growing outwards, in width.
