Barr praised medical marijuana as a tonic for her glaucoma

  SOURCE: www.huffingtonpost.com via SF Weekly's The Snitch As third-party hero Gary Johnson cements his status as the most viable alternative presidential candidate in recent memory (the Libertarian challenger to Obama-Romney broke the 10 percent mark in one recent poll of Ohio voters), it appears clear to marijuana-minded voters that there's no better friend at the ballot box than the former New Mexico governor. Well. Hold your horses, cannabis users: Roseanne Barr -- yes, as in that "Roseanne" -- is on your side, too. The former sitcom star and Peace and Freedom Party presidential nominee gave a brief but memorable address at Oaksterdam University last night, during which she praised medical marijuana as a tonic for her glaucoma as well as for the government's mind control. Roseanne's appearance was threefold: She pushed for total legalization of the marijuana plant as well as donations and voters for her newly adopted political party (a push to be a Green Party candidate didn't go so well). "Marijuana should be totally legal," she said. "We live in a free country, so it should be legal to smoke marijuana and drink." [/caption] Barr is running on a ticket with antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan, who Bay Area voters may remember from her 2008 bid to unseat then-House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Her appearance in Oakland was initially scheduled to be a fundraiser at a private home, but when Oaksterdam officials found out she'd be in town, they invited her to the downtown campus of the marijuana school, one of the federal goverment's victims in the recent crackdown on state-legal weed. Barr's Peace and Freedom Party needs voters as well as cash; the party won't be on the ballot in California in 2014 unless 45,000 more voters register with the platform, according to the San Jose Mercury News. "Thank you for breaking through your mind-control programming and having some free thought," she said, according to the newspaper. "Marijuana really does help you break through that and remember what is important." The 59-year old Barr, who currently runs a nut farm in Hawaii, said she would grow hemp if it weren't the only commodity which is legal to own, import, export, buy, and sell, but not to grow. And if she did, she'd "employ hundreds of thousands of Americans." But what about this mind control? "Without mind control (from the two parties)," she said, according to the Merc, "people would demand a representational government that works for the pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Barr is a real longshot without much chance of a political career past this cycle. But what about folks like Johnson? With this mind control afoot, he, too, may be in serious trouble (legal challenges in several states -- from Republicans -- to his candidacy aside).
