Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro says that pop star Lady Gaga is a "slut" who is influencing children by publicly using marijuana. During a Monday event to promote the Tackling Youth Substance Abuse Initiative program, the Conservative Party of New York politician lashed out at Lady Gaga for recently firing up a spliff on stage in Amsterdam. Standing beside a poster board with photos of the pop star smoking weed, Molinaro warned that there was "a tremendous influence with our youth" by "glorifying the drug use." "There's Gaga. Here's this ... this ... I would call her a slut," he said, according to the Staten Island Advance. "This slut is influencing many, many children." "My niece has two daughters, 12 and 14, [and] they love this woman. Why? Why?" the borough president continued. "To me, she's not an actress, she's a slut ... in the pure meaning of the word." "So, we have a job to do also with these actresses, actors, ballplayers. They use drugs as if it's nothing. We shouldn't praise them. We shouldn't honor them. We should really hit them. We should hit the sponsors that she has ... where her millions of dollars come [from]." As the Atlantic noted, Molinaro was wrong about the singer on both counts. Lady Gaga is not an actress and she's not a slut "in the pure meaning of the word," which Merriam-Webster defines as "a promiscuous woman; especially: prostitute."
