What's special about THC and CBD Capsules?

Cannabis capsules are an alternative method of how to use marijuana, most usually for medical purposes. Capsules differ from smoking, vaping, or ingesting edibles, and appeal to patients who are hesitant to try cannabis any other way. Traditional to western medical practice, capsules are reliable for patients seeking discretion and exact dosings of CBD and THC.

For those who've tried edibles, cannabis capsules might be nothing new. In both cases, cannabinoids travel to the stomach via the oral cavity, process in the liver, and help medicate the body. One difference is that some cannabis capsules can have a time-release effect. Immediate-release capsules will work instantaneously; however, there are capsule products with a slow-release formula, where the cannabinoids are unleashed gradually. For example, in two waves over 3-4 hours.

Capsule shells can contain hydrogels and liposomes, which take some time to degrade in the stomach, then release CBD and THC contents.

THC-dominant capsules can generate a similar high-inducing effect, such as THC dried flower, tinctures, or oils. Capsules are convenient for use by people who have conditions like cancer, AIDS, or multiple sclerosis. Pain, dream-disturbed sleep, nausea, or lack of appetite can be efficiently treated with this type of remedy.

Capsules can be labeled full-spectrum, which means the medicine contains all chemicals found in marijuana. Both decarboxylated flower or oil are added as ingredients.

Capsules with ratios of both THC and CBD work to enhance the medical benefits of the health supplement, and achieve the entourage effect. For instance, CBD can diminish some of the adverse reactions from THC, offering relief to a patient who has a low tolerance to the mind-altering substance.

Some manufacturers use crystalline or distillate solutions for their produce. Crystalline pills often contain powdered starch-like extract, which is almost 100% clean cannabinoids. Other compounds like terpenes are refined out in order to get a pure THC or CBD powder solution.

In distillate-based capsules, the basis is liquid and comes with a relative 90% purity. Distillates can also concentrate a single cannabinoid, however, some of the other compounds remain in the content; these products are labeled broad-spectrum.

Can you prepare cannabis/hemp capsules at home?

Yes, you can! Cannabis oil tinctures or vegetable oils are commonly used in the preparation process. Decarboxylation is one of the necessary steps to unlock the THC and CBD potentials of the dried flower.

Here's how to prepare your home medical remedies:

  1. Preheat your oven at 220°F (104°C)
  2. Prepare the marijuana flower you want to use for capsules (or hemp for CBD capsules)
  3. Spread the weed in a baking pan lined with a baking sheet with parchment paper
  4. Bake the raw flower for 30 minutes
  5. Add the cannabis to a simmering pot of olive or coconut oil and simmer for at least an hour
  6. Once the concoction has cooled, use a dropper to fill empty gelatine or vegetarian capsule shells.
  7. Stock your medicine in a dry place. Shelf life for capsules ranges from 1-2 years.

If you don't have time to cook, you can always acquire a ready-made cannabis oil tincture and fill in capsule shells as needed. For example, use a clean CBD extract to prepare CBD-based pill remedies.

How to consume cannabis capsules?

The effects of a single capsule are supposed to wear off after a couple of hours. It's advised to wait at least two hours before ingesting a second pill. It takes a bit of time before a person adjusts their intake regime.

Recommended beginner-level dose:
CBD: 25 mg capsules
THC: 5 mg capsules

Test how potent your medicines are while at home. It's good to estimate capsules' strength before you go on and engage in other activities. Last but not least, don't drive or operate other machinery while under the influence of your medicines.
