There are about seven different types of commonly available grow lamps for you to choose from if you’re contemplating raising a few plants of your very own. The pros and cons and costs usually dictate if you’re going to install a grow area. Cannabis also takes lots of space in both height and width. After giving it a think most people realize that the place to start is with seeds or clones. Seedlings and clones don’t take up much space individually, but you’d be surprised to see how big the grow area has to be to accommodate anything more than a dozen plants. The first thing your seedlings or clones usually see is a fluorescent bulb. Its soft, warm glow is perfect for rooting some new plants. Very little heat is generated and the spectrum of the light is perfect for new plants just starting their lives. They’re very delicate at this stage in their development, so a measure of care must be taken. Fluorescents are tubes about 3 centimeters in width. The standard sizes make finding parts a simple and cost effective manner. The things have been around since the forties, so alot is known about them and they’ve become a very dependable product. It is commonplace to see them being used to sprout seeds in commercial marijuana operations, for example. Heh heh A wide array of fluorescent bulbs are available for horticulture. They come in all of the standard sizes you’d see in an office building. Some are tinted to simulate the sun’s spectrum exactly, which is cool to see. These bulbs usually come in 20 watt and 40 watt power sizes. I found that the 20 watt bulb suffices every time. You have to mind the bulb’s height closely with the 40 watt bulb, as it can sometimes dry out the topmost leaves. Cannabis leaves grow fast and due to this are thin and fragile things. Another great thing about fluorescents is the fact that they can be kept in the high humidity sprouting area without burning out. You can wet the bulb and very little will happen. If you were to try that with a 1000 watt lamp it would explode and just generally cause a huge mess that you’ll have to clean up. Perhaps the single deciding factor as to whether or not you’ll be setting up your own operation is cost. Fluorescents are plentiful, as they can be found anywhere on the planet. They’re represent the starting point in any cannabis set up and are surprisingly affordable.
