Turning Cannabis Into Hashish
Those of you who have been smoking cannabis for a while have no doubt come across a hoot or two of hashish, simply called hash by westerners.
The best hash comes from the Arab nations, but most people don’t know how simple it is to make your own hash from the proceeds of your most recent harvest. With just a bit of preparation and a little guidance, you’ll have your own couch glue hash to share with your friends in no time. The best hash comes from plants that have been bred for just that purpose. They tend toward having crystals on the exterior of the buds. Do try to grow one of these strains at least once in your life. You won’t regret it. The place to start is the simple machine you’ll build on your own. The machine is basically a small tumbler. A round frame is lined with a metal screen exactly like the screen on your windows. Rotate the drum that is filled with buds and the crystals will fall through the screen onto a tray placed below the tumbler. Use a coarse screen for the best results.
You can go as simple or as complicated as you’d like. You want every drum full of buds to tumble for about twenty minutes. This is long enough to knock the crystals off the bud and ensure you’re getting the most out of your freshly harvested cannabis. I’ve seen hash tumblers that use an electric rotisserie motor to rotate the drum, but a hand tumbled drum works just as well. Most people don’t realize how much hash you can get from one crop. In the form it is so far it is a great smoke – but you can take it a step further by isomerizing some buds and making hash oil. Mix this hash oil with the crystal hash you harvested using your hash tumbler and you’ll have soft black hash that will be both potent and delicious. The best thing about making your own hash is the fact that the strains bred to make hashish are still very potent, even after harvesting the exterior crystals. It has been my experience that growing a few hash plants with my crop increases the amount of usable product in the end. Not only will you have killer buds, but you’ll also have some prime hash to smoke.
