Mike Huckabee Thinks Pot Legalization and Denying Marriage Rights Are the Same

Republican hopeful cites flouting of federal pot laws as similar to Kim Davis fight

Mike Huckabee claims that he fails to see the difference between legal weed states ignoring federal marijuana laws and state employees refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, as in the case of Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who launched a recent crusade against the Supreme Court's recent ruling on equal marriage rights.

In an interview with Iowa's KCCI Channel 8 in Des Moines, the Republican presidential candidate and former governor of Arkansas is asked if the decriminalization of Cannabis with regards to law enforcement reform was something that he would consider.

"Well, I think we need to recognize that marijuana has never made anybody a better citizen," the Republican hopeful responds. "Does it make you a better worker? Does it make you a better mom or dad? A better citizen? Does it make you a more attentive driver?"

Ignoring decades of medical marijuana research touting the efficacy of Cannabis therapy, Huckabee muses, "If there's a benefit to it, and there may be medically, if your doctor prescribes certain uses of it, then I'm open to that."

When the reporter touches upon the discord between pro-pot state laws and anti-Cannabis federal legislation, Huckabee claims an inability to grasp the fundamental differences between the weed legalization movement and those wishing to quell the adoption of equal rights for all.

"Let me ask you this: How come it's that liberals are okay with not keeping the federal law when it comes to the marijuana laws and it's okay for the states to ignore it, but if it comes to a county clerk in Kentucky who doesn't believe that she can abide by a federal court ruling - not even a law - then she goes to jail?"

Huckabee continues, "Do you see where conservatives, sometimes their heads explode because they say, ‘Boy, there's one set of rules for people on the left and a total different set of rules for people on the right?'"
