Jesse Winsborough crashed his car on the busy A9 road in northern Scotland in Blizzard conditions. Feeling sympathetic to his plight when they saw him pulling two suitcases out of the vehicle in freezing temperatures and heavy snow, the officers noticed and offered him, his passenger and unbeknown to them, his weed, a lift!

However, the concern soon switched to the contents of the cases when after sitting in the police vehicle with Winsborough and his friend, a “strong smell,” soon became hard to ignore. A “strong smell” turned out to be the 14kg (30lbs) of weed that Winsborough had packed in his suitcases.

Once the Police uncovered the massive stash of weed that was literally under their noses, they questioned him, and Winsborough admitted to supplying cannabis between Perthshire and London in Jan 2020.

The court heard that Winsborough had lost control of his car in a severe snowstorm on the A9 and flipped onto its roof, where both driver and passenger managed to escape uninjured.

Police officers arrived at the crash scene just after midnight. The men confirmed that they had been involved in an accident and that they were waiting for a lift. Due to being stranded on the A9 in lousy weather, the Police offered to take them somewhere safe to wait.

After accepting the lift, the two said they’d like to be dropped off at Gleneagles railway station, suitcases, and all to continue their journey. The dedication of the 2 to get their delivery to its destination, needs applauding if nothing else.

Once the suitcases were inside the police vehicle, a strong smell of cannabis was blatantly apparent. Officers unzipped the suitcases and found what looked to be massive amounts of weed in vacuum-sealed plastic bags.

Winsborough, a self-employed floorer from London was charged in his absence. The 30-year-old  is to be sentenced in December. Some may laugh at the decision and say that the guys mustve been mad to get in the police car with any weed at all, let alone 30lbs of it!! But just think of the bragging rights if they had pulled it off? that would be a legendary tale. Mr Winsborough, for your efforts, I salute you!
